Things are happening around the Vincentia golf precinct

And we need your support

The decision to unwind the 2017 amalgamation is welcomed.

The Board of the St Georges Basin Country Club announced in December 2024 its intention to pursue a de-amalgamation of Country Club Vincentia, unwinding the 2017 amalgamation and allowing a vote by members on the future of the Vincentia precinct.

The Vincentia community welcomed the decision.

It followed on from a lot of work by many people. Since September the various community

groups, including VRRA, Vincentia Matters and FoVGC, have been working together in a

Vincentia Golf Working Group which includes the golfing sub-clubs, residents and other community members to provide a collective voice in liaising with the Country Club.

The local member of the NSW Parliament, Liza Butler, has played a key role in helping to

advance an outcome that will be in the interests of all.

Possible futures for Vincentia if members vote to support de-amalgamation

One option would be for Vincentia to be re-amalgamated with an existing club.

The Country Club has sent out to all NSW clubs an invitation to make an Expression of

Interest in amalgamating with Vincentia. The closing date for submissions is 1 March 2025.

The other outcome provided for in the legislation would be the establishment of a new

registered club to take over the de-amalgamated Vincentia.

A company taking that forward would have to meet the stringent benchmarks laid out

in the legislation to demonstrate that it would provide a secure viable future as a

standalone club.

If members voted for this re-establishment option, and subject to satisfying the

regulatory conditions, the company would be approved as a new registered club and

take over the assets and licences relating to the Vincentia operations.

Which future might be best for Vincentia?

The feedback from the community to the Working Group has been clear.

You want to have a vital sporting facility and community resource restored on the Vincentia

precinct.

The message from the community is that you want the new club to provide a range of facilities, services and organised activities available to members, the wider community and visitors:

a centre for multiple sports, including golf.
hospitality services.
social gatherings and community celebrations; and
work training programs for young people.

These are what will be top of mind when future options are considered.

Where to now?

There is a lot happening.

To give sharper focus to the work now needed, the Vincentia Golf Working Group established a small Project Team, drawing on the range of skills and experience in the community. The project team, which is led by Tom Karp, comprises Stephanie Pursley, Graeme Lawless, Craig Hatton, Graeme Thompson, Lyn Hay and John Dyball.

Its task is to explore and evaluate all possibilities with a view to identifying a course that offers

the best chance of restoring a vibrant sustainable sports and community club at Vincentia –

via amalgamation with another club or the creation of a new registered club.

The future of the current negotiations and planning is very dependent on the support of all

sections of the Vincentia community and its many visitors. We ask you to keep watching for

events, activities, and public gatherings where you will be able to show your support and
